In this recipe, we’ll show you how to make the most classic version of a hot matcha latte.
Served in cafés around the world, matcha lattes are loved for their smooth, comforting flavor.
Thanks to the milk and sugar, the natural bitterness of matcha is softened — making it a favorite even for beginners.
This is the simplest and most timeless way to enjoy it.
Ingredients
- 1.5 tsp matcha powder (about 3g)
- 1 oz / 30 ml hot water
- 5 oz / 150 ml cow’s milk
- 1 tsp powdered brown sugar
Step 1
Add 1.5 tsp of matcha powder into your cup.
Mix well to break up any clumps. A fine powder ensures a smooth texture.
Step 2
Pour in 1 oz (30 ml) of hot water and add 1 tsp of powdered brown sugar. Stir until fully dissolved.
Be sure there are no lumps of powder left behind.
Step 3
In a separate heatproof container, warm 5 oz (150 ml) of milk in the microwave.
Pour the warm milk into the cup and stir gently.
Feel free to reheat the mixture briefly if needed.
Notes & Tips
- Shizune Matcha is designed to highlight the true essence of tea — including both umami and a hint of natural bitterness. You can adjust the flavor by adding more sugar or milk to suit your preference.
- If you're new to matcha, consider adding up to 2 tsp (about 5g) of sugar for a milder taste.
- For experienced matcha drinkers, try using 2 tsp (4–5g) of matcha powder for a deeper flavor.
- To bring out the bold notes of matcha, you can reduce the hot water slightly — to around 0.8–0.9 oz (25 ml).
- Soy milk also works beautifully if you prefer a dairy-free version.
